Gwen Bautista is a Manila-based curator, critic, and art journalist. She is interested in observing subtle forms of oppression tied to personal and socio-political narratives as themes in art and exhibition-making. She is an alumna of Para Site’s Workshops for Emerging Arts Professionals in Hong Kong and a fellow of the EDI Global platform organized by Fondazione Morra Greco in Naples. A finalist at the Ateneo Art Awards – Purita Kalaw Ledesma Prizes in Art Criticism, she has written essays for exhibition catalogues in the Philippines, Singapore, Germany, and the United Kingdom. As an art journalist, she has covered biennials, art fairs, and exhibitions for different publications. Curatorial projects include institutional exhibitions at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, UP Vargas Museum, Alliance française de Manille, as well as exhibitions in commercial galleries, artist-run art spaces, and other experimental platforms. Bautista is the co-founder and director of MONO8, a contemporary art gallery with exhibition spaces in Manila and with significant regular projects in Cebu. She is also the Senior Editor at Artvisor, a London-based contemporary art platform and consultancy.
